The Rolling Frames Film Summit has proven to be a real snapshot of 21st century short film making art: romance,  horror, comedy, documentary, music and low-budget gems and we are sure, will continue to dazzle us this year.

Rolling Frames Film Society (affiliated to The Federation of Film Societies of India) is a Bangalore based non-profit registered Society formed for anyone and everyone, who is film professional or a film enthusiast. It is primarily designed to help facilitate networking among Professionals from the Film Animation, VFX Industry, Students and Staff from Film Institutes, Media Journalism, Fine Arts Colleges, Animation Institutes, and also Film enthusiasts. Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy was formed by the Government of Karnataka in 2009 to promote film culture in Karnataka. The Academy has taken up several projects to develop a healthy film culture in the state and adopted the motto of promoting ‘Education in Cinema and Cinema in Education’. Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy has been conducting Film Appreciation Courses in different parts of the Karnataka state, in colleges and film societies. It has also promoted the establishment of district, institutional and campus film societies all over the state. Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy has witnessed phenomenal growth. Following the roaring success of its Bangalore International Film Festival (BIFFES), it is today one of the most anticipated events of the year. National Award winning Director T.S Nagabharna was the Founder President of Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy.

The Department of Information and Publicity acts as a bridge between the people and the Government. By exploiting all the available media the department is playing a vital role in keeping the people informed about the developmental plans and progress of the Government. It is also playing a major role in keeping the Government informed about the complaints, comments and grievances of the people, by which it is assisting the Government to arrive at a suitable solution to the issue. India’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s decided to give a boost to film society movement in India in 1955, the year Satyajit Ray’s Pather Panchali was released. The rest, as they say, is history. The film society movement today has a network of 300 film societies in India. The first meeting of the Federation of Film societies of India (FFSI) was held at the residence of then Sahitya Akademi Secretary, Shri Krishna Kripalani in New Delhi on Dec 13, 1959. Satyajit Ray was named as the founder President of the FFSI with six functional film societies in Kolkata, Patna, New Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai roped in as members. For better administrative control, the FFSI was divided into four regions – North (New Delhi) East (Calcutta) West (Mumbai), and South (Chennai) whereas FFSI was registered under the Society Registration Act, 1860 in Kolkata. Several eminent personalities including India’s Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi, and I. K. Gujaral, film makers K.A. Abbas, Mrinal Sen, were actively associated with the FFSI as its office bearers. The primary objective of FFSI is to promote film as an art form – as against the popular perception of it being a vehicle of entertainment and inculcate a taste for good cinema among cineastes by greater exposure to quality World Cinema.FFSI always encourages the formation of new film societies. It also promotes film appreciation course to spread film culture. FFSI also publishes an annual print magazine “Indian Film Culture”. FFSI’S Central Office located in Mumbai liaises with the Government of India to secure grant and other concessions to assist film societies.

ABAI is an association originally started by and for Bangalore Animation Industry was formed in 2006, is a non-profit association. It has since spread its wings to become a strong catalyst to promote the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics (AVGC) business activities in India. ABAI is committed to developing the industry through collaboration between all constituencies both local and international and helping develop the eco-system for the digital creative content industry. In Karnataka, it has served as a ‘nodal connector’ between the industry, academia and government and is the prime mover in both recommending and executing the Karnataka AVGC Policy. Other states are seeking ABAI’s knowledge and connections to develop strategies in the sector. Various infrastructure initiatives have been initiated that will make Bangalore/Karnataka a key hub/platform for small, medium and large companies. This will take the form of infrastructure offerings, capital intensive technologies including motion capture, render farms, storage, etc. and skills development projects such as train the trainer and digitalisation of the art colleges, etc.
